INITIAL REPORT LOOKING TO 2044, ASA FOUNDATION FOR THE YMCA'SNORTH STAR AND ROADMAP. (WAY)

by yunheePathos 2019. 10. 24.

WELCOME

For 175 years, YMCA has worked across generations to build healthy social conditions for communities to thrive. In the 1920s, we supported a girls’ basketball team in Mexico, challenging limited opportunities for women. In the 1960s, we offered skills training in refugee camps in Jordan. In the 1970s, we helped young Senegalese workers learn type-writing skills.

What actions will be most important in helping communities thrive in 2044, when YMCA celebrates its 200thbirthday? Today, communities face a wide range of challenges. After exploring a range of scenarios at the global celebration YMCA175, led by our partner Forum for the Future, we know which future challenges concern you, our members, the most.

Top of your list is widening social divisions and inequalities, as political extremes gain traction and resources come under strain. Next on your list are the challenges of migration and population growth, as conict and climate change drive people from their homes. Then there’s the growing gap between skills and a rapidly changing job market, shaped by technological innovation.

These challenges are not unlike the ones we confronted in the 20th Century, and yet they are colliding more rapidly as the pace of change quickens. We cannot know the future, but we can prepare for it through actions that build our resilience to emerging risks. This Summary Report is accompanied by a Strategy Toolkit to support us in identifying our North Star for 2044: the vision that will guide our work over the next 25 years. We invite you to join us in the next stage of the process, where we will dene our North Star and explore pathways towards setting our strategic direction.

We look forward to sharing this journey with you.
