On 27 September 2011, Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli prisons announced <http:> the start of a campaign of disobedience to protest an escalating series of punitive measures taken against them by the Israeli Prison Service (IPS) in recent months.</http:>

 

2011년 9월 27일, 이스라엘 감옥에 수감되어있는 팔레스타인 수감자들이 최근 몇 달간 이스라엘 수감 기관(Israeli Prison Service, 이하 IPS : 역자 주)이 그들에 대해 가혹한 조치들을 계속 늘려나가는 것에 저항하는 불복종 캠페인을 시작할 것임을 발표했습니다.

 

 

The campaign is composed of several elements, including a hunger strike and refusal to cooperate with a number of IPS rules, such as wearing prison uniforms and participating in multiple daily roll calls. Further information can be found in the press release attached.

 

이 캠페인은 단식투쟁을 포함하여 죄수복을 입거나 매일 출석 확인 참가와 같은 많은 IPS의 규칙들에 협력하는데 거부하는 등의 여러 요소들로 이루어져 있습니다. 더 상세한 정보는 첨부된 언론 공식 발표에서 찾을 수 있습니다.

 

 

These actions have been announced following a speech given by Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu in which he stated that whilst captured IDF soldier Gilad Shalit remained incarcerated by militant groups in Gaza, tougher treatment would be imposed on Palestinian prisoners- a clear policy of collective punishment which has since resulted in the withdrawal of university education and the denial of basic rights such as family visits and access to adequate food in some of the prisons.

 

이러한 행동들에 대해서 발표된 것은 이스라엘 수상 베냐민 네타냐후가 IDF(이스라엘 방위군 : 역자 주) 군인 길라드 샬리트가 가자의 무장 단체에 의해 수감되어 있는 한 더 가혹한대우가 팔레스타인 수감자들에게 가해질 것이라는 연설을 한 이후입니다. - 이는 여러 감옥 내에서 대학 교육금지와 가족들의 방문과 수감 생활 중 충분한 음식 제공과 같은 기본권에 대해 거부하는 결과를 낳아왔던 종합적 징벌 제도에 다름이 아닙니다.

 

 

The Palestinian prisoners have made several key demands, some of which are listed below:

 

팔레스타인 수감자들은 몇 가지 중요한 요청을 했는데 이는 아래와 같습니다.

 

 

- End the abusive use of isolation;

- End restrictions on University education in the prisons;

- End the denial of books and newspapers;

- End the shackling to and from meetings with lawyers and family members;

- End the excessive use of fines as punishment;

- And ultimately end all forms of collective punishment, including the refusal of family visits, night searches of prisoners' cells, and the denial of basic health treatment.

 

-격리 수용을 남용하지 마라

-감옥 내 대학 교육에 대한 제재를 중단하라

-책과 신문을 차단하지 마라

-변호사들과 가족들과의 만남을 막는 족쇄와 같은 조치들을 끝내라

-형벌로서 벌금을 과도하게 부과하는 것을 멈추어라

-그리고 가족들의 방문을 거부하거나 수감자들의 방을 한밤중에 수색하고 기본적인 건강 관리를 거부하는 것과 같은 종합적 처벌의 모든 형태들을 궁극적으로 끝내야만 한다.

In response to these demands, we are calling on all activists and supporters of human rights and justice for the Palestinians to take action in solidarity with the hunger strikers. There are two important ways in which to take action:

 

이 요구들에 응답하여 우리는 모든 활동가들, 인권 지지자들과 팔레스타인인들을 위한 정의에 이 단식 투쟁자들과 연대하여 직접 행동에 나서기를 요청합니다. 이 연대 행동에 나서는 데에는 두 가지 중요한 방법이 있습니다.

 

 

- Organize a protest, silent vigil or similar public action outside the Israeli embassy in your country and highlight the demands of the political prisoners. Addameer can send you further information on particular prisoners who are engaged in the hunger strike to support your action.

- Write a letter to the Israeli Prime Minister expressing your concern for the hunger strikers and demanding an end to the arbitrary treatment of Palestinian prisoners. A template letter is attached.
