Statements of Praying for Peace in Palestine and Korea

 

팔레스타인과 한국 그리스도인들은 형제입니다. 팔레스타인에서 발생한 반(反) 생명적 전쟁과 탄압, 인권 유린을 묵인한 한국교회의 죄악을 참회합니다. 팔레스타인 인들의 울부짖음과 평화에 대한 염원을 외면하는 것 또한 팔레스타인의 고통을 지속시키는 것임을 고백하며 참회합니다.

팔레스타인과 한반도 평화 문제는 전 세계가 관심하며 해결해야 합니다. 팔레스타인은 종교 문제가 아니라 인종 차별이자 식민지 영토 문제이며 지정학적 질서에 의한 패권문제입니다. 정치적 타결 이전에 세계 시민의 인권 차원에서 인간의 기본권을 존중하는 세계의 모습을 보여주어야 합니다. 한국은 같은 민족이 총부리를 겨누고 있는 지구상에서 유일한 분단국가입니다. 한국은 일본 제국주의에 의해 강요된 36년간의 식민지를 극복하자마자 냉전체제에 의해 남북으로 갈리었고 1950년부터 1953까지 같은 민족 간 전쟁을 치러야 했습니다. 3년 동안의 전쟁을 통해 200만 명 이상의 사람들이 죽었고, 1천만 명의 이산가족이 발생했습니다. 1953년 휴전협정을 맺은 이후 지금까지 남과 북은 60년째 오도 가도 못하는 분단국가로 갈라져 있습니다.

이제 국제 사회는 팔레스타인과 이스라엘의 평화와 공존, 한반도 평화의 해법을 찾는데 진심을 모아야 합니다. 우리는 팔레스타인과 한반도에 그리스도의 평화가 먼저 임재하시기를 간절히 기도합니다. 그리고 이를 위해 기도하며 행동하는 세계의 모든 이들에게도 평화의 주님이 함께하시기를 간절히 원하며 팔레스타인과 한반도의 평화를 위해 앞으로도 계속 기도하며 최선을 다할 것입니다.

Palestine and Korea Christians are brothers. We repent the sins of Korean churches that have turned a blind eye to the war of anti-life oppression and violation of human rights that have occurred in Palestine. We confess and repent that disregarding Palestinians’ cries and wishes for peace has served to perpetuate their suffering.

The whole world must pay attention and endeavor to resolve the issue of peace in Palestine and the Korean peninsula. Palestine is not a problem of religion but is a problem of racial discrimination, colonization and power struggle regarding the geopolitical order. This is not a war on an equal footing but a unilateral pillage, and in the process unspeakable human rights violations and death are continuing to take place. Korea is the only divided country in the world, taking aim at each other. On regaining independence from the imperialist Japan's colonial rule from 1910 to 1945, Korea was divided into North and South Korea by the cold war structure and fought each other from 1950 to 1953. During the three years of war, over 2 million people were killed and 10 million families were separated by the war. Since the truce in 1953, North and South Korea have been separated, not crossing the border freely for 60 years.

It is now time for the international community to make sincere efforts toward finding a solution for peace and co-existence between Palestine – Israel and North - South Korea. We sincerely pray that the peace of Christ descend first on Palestine and the Korean peninsula. We also sincerely pray that the peace of our Lord touch everyone who is praying and acting to this end. We will continue to pray and do the best we can to achieve peace in Palestine and the Korean peninsula
