YMCA-YWCA Youth Journey for Justice 2011( 23rd - 31st July 2011)

Groups participants

 

Twenty seven youth participants from various YMCA/YWCA movements in various countries in the world have arrived to Palestine for theJourney for Justice 2011 with the YMCA-YWCA Joint Advocacy Initiative. Participants have come from Sweden, Spain, Ethiopia, Denmark, United Kingdom, the Netherlands, Argentina and Norway. This is beside the JAI local staff and international volunteers from Ireland, Canada/USA and the Netherlands, as well as two Koreans who will join the journey patricianly, who are doing a documentary movie on the Olive Tree Campaign.

 

Those are accompanied throughout the journey by 20 - 25 local youth participants, through the JAI advocacy youth group.

 

The journey lasts from the 23rd to the 31st of July 2011, and aims at sharing local youth in their daily life, listen to their stories, experiences, and dreams, witnessing various EJ YMCA and YWCA of Palestine programs in action, meetings and discussions with Palestinians and Israeli specialists, representatives and organizations, as well as grass root people and groups.

Day one – 23 July 2011: Arrival

 

Day two – 24 July 2011: Bethlehem: Introduction, ice breaking, Wall - settlements - confiscated land - threatened land and meeting farmers tour, refugee camp tour and chatting with young refugees, watching YMCA activity, sub-groups reflections.

 

Day three – 25 July 2011: Hebron: Watching crowded checkpoint in the early morning, presentation on Hebron, tour inside the old city of Hebron - closed streets - divisions, home stays with local families.

 

Day four – 26 July 2011: Jericho: Water issue in Palestine presentation and discussion, visiting and witnessing the YWCA program in action, swimming in the Dead Sea, free tour in Jericho down town.

 

Day five – 27 July 2011: Jerusalem: Crossing the checkpoint into Jerusalem, old city and Church of The Holy Sepulcher, visit the YWCA headquarter and meet G.S., Israeli Committee tour inside Jerusalem witnessing demolished houses, displaced areas and people, sub-groups reflections.

 

Day six – 28 July 2011: Jerusalem: Geopolitical presentation by UN-OCHA, visiting the YMCA headquarter and meeting G.S., meeting with Israeli soldiers who refuse duties through Yesh Gvul group, evening movie screening.

 

Day seven – 29 July 2011: Bethlehem: refugee issue - right of return - ongoing displacement Israeli policy by BADIL center, KAIROS document and initiative presentation and discussion, YMCA facilities tour, sub-groups reflections, free time.

 

Day eight – 30 July 2011: Ramallah: meeting with Palestinian political on the PNA/PLO international advocacy and lobbying work, BDS campaign national coalition representative presentation and discussion, evaluation and future advocacy work and communication with the JAI, cultural evening and dinner, farewell.

 

Day nine – 31 July 2011: Departure.
