CPT 튜와니의 2010년 10월 소식

10월 동안에는 튜와니의 CPT사무실에는 두 명, 때로는 세 명의 활동가들이 활동하였다.

 
School Patrol:

오퍼레인션 도브의 활동가들과 함께 CPT는 튜바(Tuba) 지역의 학교 학생들이 마온(Ma'on)지역의 이스라엘 점령촌을 지나다닐 때 이스라엘 군의 동행해 주는 것에 대한 감시활동을 했다. 이스라엘 군인이 두 번이나 정시에 도착하지 않아 아이들이 튜바 지역으로 돌아갈 때 국제 활동가들이 동행을 했는데 이 두 번의 동행 중 한번은 마스크로 얼굴을 가린 이스라엘 점령촌 주민 4명이 아이들을 쫓아 몰아내기도 했다. 이들과 언어적 육체적 직접적인 접촉은 없었으며 아무도 다치지는 않았다. 또 다른 한번은 고등학교 학생들이 튜바로 돌아가는 길에 복면을 쓴 두 명의 점령민들에게 그들이 타고 있던 나귀를 뺏겼는데 나중에 나귀는 튜바지역으로 돌아왔지만 안장은 없어진 상태였다.

 

목동들과의 동행 Shepherd Accompaniment

 

CPT 활동가들은 금요일과 토요일 저녁을 튜바지역에서 보내도 다음날 아침에 젊은 목동들이 마온지역(Ma'on)의 점령촌 근처에 가축들을 데리고 풀을 먹이러 가는 길을 동행하였다. 일반적으로 점령촌 주민들이 가까이 오면 목동들은 바로 자리를 떠버린다. 한번은 이스라엘 군인들이 목동들을 튜바 지역까지 추격해갔고 거기서 이들 군인들의 행위를 비디오로 촬영하던 목동들의 대학생 형제를 체포했다. 그들은 그를 군 기지로 데리고 가서 다섯 시간동안 가두어 두었다. 또 한 번은 두 명의 오퍼레인션 도브의 활동가들이 목동들과 동행하고 돌아오는 길에 복면을 한 점령촌 주민들에게 공격을 받기도 했다. 그들은 상처를 입지는 않았다. 다음날 두 명의 CPT활동가들은 말을 타고 온 정착민에게 튜바로 향하는 길 근처에 오지 말라는 경고를 받기도 했고 점령촌 주민 세 명이 더 와서는 CPT 활동가들이 먼 길로 돌아가는 것을 지켜보고 있었다.

 

이스라엘 군의 검문소 Israeli Army Checkpoints

 

CPT 팀은 종종 At-Tuwani에서 Yatta로 이어지는 도로와 점령민들 만을 위한 고속도로 교차점에 세워지는 임시 검문소의 존재에 대해 경계했다. 군인들은 모든 차를 세우고 이스라엘로 또는 이스라엘에서 불법적으로 오가는 노동자를 찾는 다는 이유로 그린라인이 몇 마일 떨어져 있지 않은 곳에서 증명서를 검사했다. CPT와 오퍼레이션 도브 활동가들은 이러한 검문소를 감시하고 군인들이 팔레스타인 사람들을 평소보다 더 길게 기다리게 할 경우 개입하기도 하였다. 때로는 군인들에게 그들이 하고 있는 일이 무엇인지 그리고 왜 이러한 일을 하는지에 대해 대화할 수 있는 기회를 가지기도 한다.

 

옹호와 지지 Advocacy

 

영국에서 온 방문객은 CPT 팀과 함께 하루를 보내고 갔으며 미국과 캐나다에서 온 30명의 메노나이트 대표단이 그들 스스로 이스라엘 점령촌과 군인들에 의해 그들의 땅이 불법적으로 점령과 몰수행위에 대한 At-Tuwani 사람들의 비폭력 저항이 이야기를 직접 보고 듣고자 찾아왔다.

 

올리브 수확 Olive Harvest

 

군인들은 올 해 올리브를 추수기간 동안 농민들을 보호하라는 명령을 받은 것 같다. At-Tuwani의 가족들이 마온지역(Ma'on) 불법점령촌 주변의 홈라(Humra) 마을에서 있는 동안에 두 대의 군인 지프 차량이 그 마을과 점령촌 사이의 도로에서 올리브 추수가 이루어지는 내내 머물러 있었다. 올리브 추수는 별 사건 없이 조용일 이루어졌다.

CPT At-Tuwani October 2010 Update

There were generally two, and sometimes three, members on the CPT At-Tuwani team during the month of October.

School Patrol:

Together with the members of Operation Dove the team monitored the Israeli military accompaniment of the school children from the Tuba area as they passed near the Israeli settlement of Ma'on. Twice the soldiers failed to arrive in the afternoon and the internationals accompanied the children back to Tuba. Four settlers, with faces masked, chased the children on one of these accompaniments. There was no verbal or physical contact with the settlers and no one was injured. On another occasion two high school students were returning to Tuba when two masked settlers stole the donkey they were riding on. Later the donkey appeared back in Tuba missing the saddle.

Shepherd Accompaniment:

Team members often spent Friday or Saturday nights at Tuba and accompanied young shepherds in the morning as they grazed their flocks near the Ma'on settlement barns. When settlers approach the shepherds generally leave the area quickly. Israeli soldiers on one occasion chased young shepherds back to Tuba and arrested their brother, a university student, when he videoed the soldiers' actions. He was taken to an army base and held for five hours. On one occasion two members of Operation Dove were attacked by masked settlers as they returned from accompanying shepherds . They were unharmed. The next day two CPTers were challenged by a settler on horseback and warned to stay off the road to Tuba. Three more settlers appeared and watched the CPTers as they took a longer route.

Israeli Army Checkpoints:

The team was often alerted to the presence of a temporary army checkpoint set up at the junction of the settler-only highway and the road from At-Tuwani to Yatta. The soldiers stopped most vehicles and checked IDs possibly looking for labourers travelling to or from Israel illegally – the green line is only a few miles away. CPT and/or the Doves monitor the checkpoint and intervene when soldiers detain Palestinians for a longer time than usual. Sometimes it is possible to engage the soldiers in conversation about what they are doing and why.
Advocacy:

A visitor from England spent a day with the team and a delegation of 30 Mennonites from the US and Canada visited to see for themselves and hear the stories of nonviolent resistance of the people of At-Tuwani to the occupation and confiscation of their land by Israeli settlers and soldiers. The team helped a Palestinian couple from At-Tuwani prepare for a speaking tour in Italy next month.

Olive Harvest:

The army seems to have orders to protect the farmers during olive harvest this year and while the families from At-Tuwani were in the Humra valley near the Ma'on settlement two army jeeps remained on the road between the valley and the settlement for the entirety of the olive harvest. The harvest was quiet and without incident.
