ADDAMEER LAUNCHES THE NEW ‘PRISONERS AT RISK’ CAMPAIGN TO MARK PALESTINIAN PRISONERS DAY ON 17 APRIL

CALL FOR ACTION

ADDAMEER LAUNCHES THE NEW ‘PRISONERS AT RISK’ CAMPAIGN TO MARK PALESTINIAN PRISONERS DAY ON 17 APRIL

On 17 April we will be reminding the world that whilst Israel’s illegal practices across the occupied Palestinian territory continue, so does its arbitrary detention of nearly 6,000 Palestinian prisoners. To mark Palestinian Prisoners Day, Addameer is launching a new ‘Prisoners at Risk’ campaign, which aims to highlight the glaring injustice and ill-treatment which so many Palestinian political prisoners are subjected to in Israeli jails; including torture, isolation and long-term administrative detention.

We will be calling on you or your organization to take any possible action in support of these prisoners and to raise awareness of the abhorrent practices of the Israeli authorities. We hope that 17 April will be marked by a global display of solidarity - through holding vigils or demonstrations; writing letters to the prisoners; writing to the Israeli authorities and your governments to demand their release; and by making cyber friends with Prisoners at Risk through the profiles we will create for them on Facebook, which will provide regular updates on their detention. To mark the launch of the campaign, we will be calling for the release of Ayed Dudein, who is currently the longest held administrative detainee, imprisoned without charge or trial since October 2007.

In addition to the new Prisoners at Risk campaign, on 17 April vigils will be held in parts of Europe to highlight the plight of the 36 female political prisoners in Israeli jails. You can also sign our petition calling for their release. On 15 April there will be a demonstration in front of the European Parliament in Brussels calling for the release of all political prisoners.

Similar actions will also take place in Palestine. Addameer will be co-ordinating events such as seminars, demonstrations and actions by youth groups across the territory.

Addameer can provide all materials and information you need for Palestinian Prisoners Day, including profiles and video interviews with the family of Ayed Dudein. Join us as we demand an end to arbitrary detention and to Israel’s heinous violations against political prisoners.
